31 Days of 5 Minute Free Writes

For the month of October, I am going to take part in a writing challenge. Every day, I'll be doing a 5 minute free write. If you aren't familiar with free writing, here's the definition as given by Wikipedia: "Free writing is a prewriting technique in which a person writes continuously for a set period of time without regard to spelling, grammar, or topic. It produces raw, often unusable material, but helps writers overcome blocks of apathy and self-criticism. It is used mainly by prose writers and writing teachers. Some writers use the technique to collect initial thoughts and ideas on a topic, often as a preliminary to formal writing. Free writing is not the same as automatic writing."

In other words, don't expect perfection! This isn't about being the best writer, having the best grammar, or making sure there aren't any typos in what I post. I'm just hoping it will get me into the habit of writing, and 5 minutes a day shouldn't be too ambitious even with 3 kids in the house. I'll be writing on the topic of parenthood, and particularly parenting small children, since that's what I'm living right now! Let's call the series, 31 Days of Parenting Littles. This challenge is inspired by Kate Motaung and http://write31days.com/. I'll be using Kate's writing prompts in conjunction with my theme for inspiration.

Tags:

Writing

blog

habit

free writes

free writing
