I was admitted to the hospital wednesday night. I've had a bad case of gastric flu since Sunday, and haven't been able to get or keep fluids down. Being 5 months pregnant it's very important for the baby that I keep hydrated.We went to the doctor last night to see what I should do, and he suggested I go to hospital and be admitted with an IV drip, so that's what we did. I had an elevated heartrate (110 bpm compared to 79 bpm when I was released thursday), ketones in urine, and was showing other signs of dehydration. Read more about A night in the hospital...

This past Tuesday I had my first appointment with the midwife. I was very excited for the appointment, as it makes things feel a bit more real to get antenatal care started and start planning for the birth and everything. I was also really happy to meet Susan and Ciska, the midwives. This appointment was with Susan, but my next appointment should be with Ciska, who I've had phone contact with since my pregnancy test in December. If you didn't catch on by the title, we were burgled last night. Hannah and I and the cats were not harmed in any way, but the burglars did make off with a few items.

Somewhere between midnight, when I went to bed, and 7am this morning, burglars gained access to our house via a window above the sliding door in our livingroom. They escaped by hopping over into the neighbour's yard, and then into the neighbours beyond them, before skirting round the outside of the far neighbour's house and back into the complex we live in. A friend of mine is in college, studying graphic design, and as part of his course his class has their own computer room. Now one day, he and two other class mates were upstairs in their computer lab, when someone from the computer lab downstairs started printing out her CV (aka resumé). A few weeks ago Raoul and I were given the awesome opportunity to have a free weekend at Buttonquail Nature Reserve in exchange for doing a review for IOL Travel. We had an absolutely awesome time (despite getting sunburned), and were really thankful for the opportunity. It was something we definitely couldn't have afforded right now otherwise. Very exciting news! Raoul and I got to see the baby for the first time this morning when I went for my ultrasound. Baby looks great! The little one has a strong heartbeat, which we got to hear (and see!). We also got to see the baby move (looks like they're already a better dancer than Raoul or I), and see their little arms and legs waving at us. The baby measured to be 10 weeks and 2 days old, which fit with our estimate. The doctor says everything looks great- healthy and normal. Read more about Baby's first pictures!...

One of Facebook's recent new features is it's translations. Being South African, I wanted to change my interface to use British english, rather than American english. They carefully crept into the stable, so as not to wake the baby, and as they entered the stable each one gasped a little. "Here he is, this child will save us!" whispered one of the herdboys at the back of the group to another. A feeling of awe and amazement came over them, and they quietly but excitedly went over to the proud father and shook his hand, and then gave the young mother a hug. Well, it's long overdue, but for those who don't know, Hannah is pregnant. At this stage she's about 7 weeks along, and the baby is due on the 10th of August. It's too early to tell whether or not it's a boy or a girl, but we're going to wait until junior is born to find out. Call me old-fashioned, I don't care!

To be honest, it's a little unexpected, but Hannah and I are thoroughly excited. Hannah has been going on about babies since before we got married, so now she's as happy as a pig in the mud.

So here I am, writing one of my rare and much anticipated (by whom I don't know, but it makes me feel better to say that) blog posts, and today's topic is...burritos! Yep, that's right, this reluctant blogger has come out of her shell to talk about food. I can't help it. It was the first time I had a burrito since I left the states in May 2007, and it was AMAZING.
